---Franklin D. Roosevelt the 32nd. President of the United States once said- "It isn't sufficient just to want - you've got to ask yourself what you are going to do to get the things you want."
Yesterday I submitted my request for a sabbatical to teach in Dalkeith Scotland in the fall of 2013. Hopefully I have started a journey that will allow me to be a part of intercultural learning and a rich experience thus creating my own self-fulfilling prophecy*.
I intend to use OFF EXPLORING as a place to document my travel and study. My plan is to discuss a scholarly topic in communication, define the idea, give an example and then wait to have the experience! To clarify my process will be to define, explain, and apply.
*self-fulfilling prophecy (pg.57 Looking Out Looking In) occurs when a person's expectations of an event and her or his subsequent behavior based on those expectations make the outcome more likely to occur than would otherwise have been true.
Most scholars agree that a self-fulfilling prophecy can be imposed from the internal or an external source. I have been telling myself that travel to Scotland will be fun and educational. I have been saving $$$ for six years to pay for the trip. I hope you enjoy my travel blog!!! What do you think?
