After a terrible night of traffic noise and extreme heat, we enjoy a leisurely breakfast and check out of Hotel Klettur. We are being picked up at said hotel at two this afternoon, so have decided to revisit Harpa to take a look inside. What an amazing building, so satisfying in its design. You have to see it! We stroll back to the hotel stopping for refreshments and lunch on the way. Our four-wheel-drive vehicle arrives exactly on time and we meet our driver Siggi and guide Kristberg. We have one more person to pick up before collecting the rest of the group from the airport. Trouble is, he's no where to be found. We discover the flight has been delayed so we hang around a bit longer. Kristberg thinks that he may have hopped on a transfer coach and made his own way to the airport so we set off. Half way there, Kristberg discovers that the microphone has been removed from the vehicle so he contacts base who promise to send out another one. We pull into a service station for coffee to wait for its arrival then finally on to the airport to pick up the others. We are a small group of 15, except that were still one down. We finally set off and travel along the stark and beautiful volcanic landscapes of the Reykjanes Peninsula to the village of Hveragerdi for a 2 night stay at Guesthouse Frost and Fire. We stop at a little fishing village along the way and Kristberg imparts his wisdom along the way. The guesthouse is lovely, beautiful setting on the river at the foot of a mountain. We enjoy a delicious meal that starts with Minke Whale. Now this Minke Whale tastes nothing like the supposed Minke Whale I ate last night. This one is decidedly fishy, not meaty. We have some lamb smoked with liquorice which was very unusual. The main course was the biggest, fattest piece of beautiful white cod I have ever eaten. All of this was followed by an indulgent chocolate cake with ice cream. Steve enjoyed his Lava beer (and so he should at £10 a bottle and 9.4% alcohol!). Our errant traveller turned up towards the end of the meal, he had a different time for collection on his itinerary and was not happy. After dinner and around 9.00pm, we decided we had to go for a swim in the thermally heated swimming pool followed by a soak in the similarly heated hot tub watching the fish jumping in the River Varma.

ceebie 38 degrees in the hot-tub, 15 outside!
Chris This is the restaurant inside the Harpa. Have you ever seen a more pleasing triangle? The whole thing is on an upward slope.
Chris The beautiful River Varma from our veranda.
Chris Siggi said the fish were huge on the other side of the weir.
Chris Would you believe this was 9 pm? Victoria and Anne were still in it at 10 pm.
