Arrived at Phi Phi on the 25th October with yet another hangover! We seem to have gotten into a routine, unintentionally, where we end up having a few (too many!!) beers the night before we leave to go somewhere new – and it makes traveling just that little bit harder. It’s bad enough that in transit we’re technically unemployed and homeless, but then we have to spend the day sweating out, battling sea sickness with hung-over nausea and dehydration! But we suppose it’s better than being in England and having to go to work!
As we arrive at Phi Phi Don the views are amazing, there are four islands in a cluster all with tall stone cliffs, which as you sail round it suddenly opens up into a bay, most impressive was Phi Phi Ley where they filmed ‘The Beach’. We stayed on Phi Phi Don the only inhabited island. However, despite its initial appearance it was a little disappointing, don’t get us wrong the views were amazing but some places are not supposed to be inhabited and this is one of them. The Andaman Beach where we stayed was a bit expensive too compared to what we’ve been used to spending on a room for the night and there certainly weren’t any extras to justify the price!
We decided to book up some more diving one of the main reasons for visiting and also a snorkeling trip to Phi Phi Ley which included a trip to Maya Bay - (The Beach). The diving was the most challenging for us both yet as on the first dive we make it down to 25 metres to look around a car ferry that sank in 1997. The current was strong as we made our way down the anchor rope but it was well worth it as we got to see the resident turtle, an abundance of different fish and a moray eel taking residence in the sunken bogs! The other two dives of the day went well but were a bit shallower where we managed to spot a leopard shark and Gem got to see a nurse shark too!
The snorkeling trip was an afternoon affair, as the main point of the voyage was to see the sunset. The trip included kayaking into a lagoon before a bit of snorkeling round the coral reef. The trip ended with a beautiful sunset and some chicken fried rice with chillies! Our stomach lining for the boozy session that was to follow! We decided as we were leaving the next day after 3 nights here that we’d visit as many bars as we could along the strip! The day before at dinner we found a restaurant which served up the best bit of chicken along with a massive piece of corn on the cob. So the inevitable drunken munchies came on our night out and yet again it was corn on the cob!
So here we are now on Koh Lanta a bit further south on the west coast of Thailand still. Last night we had a visiting cockroach crawling up the wardrobe! Our improved experience with these little blighters meant this one didn’t last long! Chris whipped out the trusty flip-flop and brought it down savagely to squash it leaving bloody remains all up the wall! We’re here on the internet for longer than usual in the anticipation that they have sorted our toilet out, as there are some unpleasant deposits that we left before we realized the flush was b*****ed! Whoops, how embarrassing!!!
That’s all for now folks, hope the Christmas shopping’s going well!!!!!!
