Home again
We arrived back in Doncaster yesterday evening after a very looooong journey back from Germany, via Belgium and into Northern France. We got a lucky break and managed an early shuttle crossing for the princely sum of an additional 4 euros which meant that we then had a chance of making it home before Natalie and Gabby went to bed.
The journey back from Folkestone was by far the worst we had to endure in the whole trip - it surprises me how far north we live! I always think once we get the Coventry signs in sight then we're nearly there - and then I'm cruelly disappointed that we still have 2 hours to go. The scenery in Britain (well, at least what you can see from the M1) is nothing like as imposing as some of the sites we've seen in recent days, the weather was cold and generally grey, and we'd both had enough at that point. Roadworks on the M1 made things worse, as did Sat Nav Woman who sat there scoffing at us after she'd spent at least five junctions on the M25 insisting that we should head up the A1 - we really must check that route for next time!
Anyway the sun actually came out, and we eventually arrived in Doncaster with a final mileage total of 2498.6 miles. Glenn did suggest that we went round the block a few times to boost the mileage to the magic 2500, but I threatened divorce and he relented and took us home.
So, blog over - we've had an absolute blast, and the girls have had a whale of a time with Grandma and Grandad. Roll on Moto GP 2010.....
