Piazza del Nettuno owes its name the Fontana del Nettuno (Fountain of Neptune), a stirring bronze sculpted by Giambologna in 1566. Beneath Neptune, four cherubs represent the four winds and four buxom women symoblise the four known contents of the old world.
To the west of the fountain, Palazzo Comunale (or Palazzo d'Accursio) has since 1336 been the home of the Bologna City council. Its architecture is very varied to say the least having seen extensive makerovers in the 15th and 16th Centuries. Very interesting!
