We checked out of the hostel on the Wednesday and headed to the Wicked car garage to get our car - 'Bix', a Holden Appollo Wagon. We had to wait a while for it to be sorted but they were changing the tyres and what not so we didn't complain! They'd even thrown in some mattresses and cool box and plates and cutlery! So quite a good deal.
We then packed our things in and headed on the road towards Cape Tribulation. On the way stopped off at Port Douglas which was a nice little town and had a potter looking at the sea. We then continued onto the ferry port to get across the Daintree River to Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation. We had a bit of a drive then through the rain forest, which was nice, but we wanted to try and get to a really cool campsite. We managed to find it just before it got dark, it was in the forest but a minute from the beach, which was really cool. We set up camp then had dinner. We were going to walk to the beach but it was very dark so decided to save it till morning! Instead we had some wine and played games.
The next morning we walked down to the beach and it was just seconds from the site. It looked a bit like the 'Shipwrecked' program. We also saw one of the biggest spiders we'd both ever seen! Which we had been standing under the night before in the pitch black, humming and haring whether it was safe to walk through the rainforest alone at night time when we could only see 1 meter in front of us. We had a walk along the beach then walked through an opening, for a walk into the rainforest. Then we headed back to the car and drove to Cape Tribulation beach and a lookout and had a potter. We then had a coffee in a rainforest coffee shop and then drove to Daintree village where we ummed and arred about doing a river cruise. As we'd already done the jumping crocodiles we decided to save money and leave it and get back on the road to travel south.
We stopped off at Ellis Beach on the way back which was nice. We were aiming to get to Mission Beach to camp up there, however it was starting to get dark so in the end we had to pull into a campsite just past Cairns. It was a 5 star resort oops $35 for a powered pitch (no non-powered). It was late so we thought we probably should. We decided to get our monies worth and watch the open-air film playing there at night-'Cheaper by the Dozen'.
