After arriving at our Youth Hostel we sorted the car out ready to take it to Wicked for its Service the following day. Reception had told us we could use the car park for free, but after we handed over the money they then kindly told us it was filled and we would have to park on the street. We finally found a space miles away from the hostel after driving round for ages. We then headed to the Kitchen to start cooking some pasta, while it was cooking we looked around for some plates and cutlery but couldn't find any. Finally we saw a sign saying you had to get them from reception for a $10 deposit, we looked at the clock and it was 21:05, typical reception closes at 21:00, so I had to walk all the way back to the car to grab some bits.
After dinner we popped back to the room. We were sharing with 2 Korean guys. When we'd first arrived we were told our room had a double bed and 2 bunks and that the 2 guys had taken the bunks. When we first arrived their stuff was all sprawled over the double bed so we presumed they had bagsied the double. After dinner we met one of the guys (who spoke hardly any English). When he realised we were a couple he told us to take the double (eventually we realised what he was saying) so we spent a while switching our stuff over. He then started telling us that he was looking for work. He'd tried fruit picking but didn't like it, so was looking for something else, but was struggling to find anything. We wondered why when his English was so… good hehe!
The next morning Rachel said she saw the 2 guys watching the TV and an article came on about gay people and they turned the TV up and went and stood next to it to watch it looking very interested…maybe we should have let them have the double bed last night!
We headed that morning in the car to the 'Wicked' garage to drop the car off. They said they couldn't do us a roadworthy certificate as they were far too busy and we panicked for a moment. The guy then said that it wouldn't matter and that we could just get a service, and they would then change the registration to south Australia, which is apparently less strict. So we were pleased as this ment we'd get the car back earlier and it should be easier to sell the car with a south Australia rego. We decided to walk back into the town and return later to get the car.
We went for a walk round the centre of town. We visited the memorial park, the lagoon, walked by the river and pottered round the shops. We also decided to treat ourselves to lunch out, so we went to a food court and treated ourselves to a curry mmm! We then started to head back to the garage. Somehow we ended up going the wrong way. When we finally realised we panicked as we didn't think we'd make it back for the garage before it closed. Plus it had started to tip down with rain. We then luckily had a phone call saying the car would not be ready until morning, so we relaxed a bit and headed back to the hostel. We grabbed some dinner then went to watch Pirates of the Caribbean which was playing in the movie room.
The next morning (Friday 2nd Dec - Happy Birthday Claire!) we went walking back to the garage and luckily the car was ready. So we hopped back in and headed back to the hostel to get our stuff. This could quite possibly have then been the most stressful moment of our relationship - Rachel was map reading and I was driving through the busy town centre. The roads weren't matching with the map (or so I'm told!) and there was traffic everywhere cutting up and loads of lunatics. It seemed to take us about an hour to find the hostel (which was supposed to be a 5 min drive). Eventually though we got there and loaded the car. We then set off in the car to Surfers Paradise.
