We arrived around 4:30 just in time before the tourist information centre closed at 5:00. We walked up to the door and tried opening it…… it was locked……. After a couple minutes of puzzlement we finally realised we had done it again and forgot about the time difference between states, it was actually 5:30. We jumped back in the car and headed to a campsite sign we had seen and pulled in, went up to the desk and asked for a pitch, then the reply came….."we are fully booked", we asked if they knew any other campsites and they marked a few on a map. We headed to the next one and went up to reception……."we are fully booked", ahhhh we started to think, what are we gonna do. We jumped back in the car and headed to the third, keeping our fingers crossed and trying to work out how the place could be so busy. We pulled up and thankfully they said they had space, plus it was cheaper then the others, so good news. We gave a sigh of relief and paid the money then pitched up.
After getting sorted we headed into town to grab some food from the supermarket then back to the campsite. While we were sorting out the grub a guy came over trying to sell us a $49 surfing lesson. He said the minibus was full in the morning but if we followed it in our own car he would only charge $35. We hummed and harred for a while then he said since he didn't have anyone for the afternoon slot he would give us that for $35 as well but would pick us up in the minibus. That sold it for us and we signed up before he changed his mind. We then had a game of chess before heading back to the tent for a nap.
On Sunday 4th we arose and headed out into town to visit the Sunday Market. It was fun wondering round the stalls then, saliva-ing over the food, we finally caved and got a slice of pizza to share. They also had a stage where singers and bands were playing. There was a little boy who must have only been about 10 signing some amazing songs. Afterwards he said that he was in 'Australia's Got Talent' so hopefully we might see him perform on TV. We then headed into the town and wondered round the shops for a bit. We got to one shop which had a step into and Rachel managed to kick her toe on it, which started to bleed under the toe nail, ahhh not another toe nail gone. We then walked up to the beach to have a look before we quickly headed back to the campsite for a quick lunch before surfing.
We headed out front and waited for the guy to show up. We were shortly followed by a German couple on their honeymoon who we got chatting too. We were discussing whether the guy was gonna show up or whether it was just some random guy who had taken our money, when finally the guy showed up. We got taken along the coast to a little bay, where there were some small long waves which were ideal to learn on. Rachel asked the guy whether there were any sharks and he replied "yes we always see sharks, surfing is no fun without sharks". He soon noticed the petrified look on Rachel's face and told her that he was joking and there weren't any sharks in the bay. She was still very nervous though but we headed to the beach with our boards.
We then stood on the beach getting taught how to get on the board and stand. He then got us to stand on the board while he pulled our board from side to side and up and down to try knock us off, calling it a balance test. He really tried to knock Rachel off hers, I think he was just having a bit of fun himself. He then called us into the water one by one to give us a go. We let the German's go first, then I went as Rachel was still scared. I had a go and almost stood before loosing my balance and falling off. He called Rachel over and finally she came, she said she might not stand and just body board, he told her not to do that as he wanted to get us further out to the better waves. A wave came and he let her go and she was off, she lay down for a while then felt the wave carry her and got excited so started to get up and managed to get onto her knees before loosing her balance. We carried on taking turns until we both managed to stand for a little bit before we fell off. He then headed back to shore to grab his surfboard while we continued. Then a couple of big waves came along and picked us up and we both surfed for ages all the way up to the beach. The instructor said "typical, you do better without my help". We carried on surfing for a few hours catching a few waves and standing a few times before we had to head back to the bus. Out of all of us Rachel must have stood for the longest amount of time and she had the biggest smile ever to prove it. We then headed back to the campsite and had a relaxing evening.
The following day (Monday 5th) we got up and dismantled the tent then headed to the other side of town and parked up. We then did a little walk through a rainforest up to a lighthouse, which had amazing views of all the beaches around. We walked along the coast for a bit and reached Australia's most Eastern point. After a few photo's we headed back to the car and on our way to Coff's Harbour.

pamela Hey sounds great, you're doing well to have kept up the detailed blogging. Had RP's Bday the other week and went toboganning which was great fun. Do you know where you'll be for Christmas? Feels like a good while since you've been gone now. Hope it's still loads of fun. Pamela
mum Who is a clever girl for standing up on the surfboard! Well done!
