Today we decided to head east and see if the beaches are as good as everyone says they are. We were not disappointed.
We went to Condingup and talked to the guy at the pub. Was it worth going to Cape Arid NP on a day trip? He said to go to Duke of Orleans Bay (Duke's Bay) and drive on any of the tracks - they all take you to a lovely beach.
We went straight down to the Duke's Bay. It was lovely. The sand is so white. It's very fine and different to the usual sand.
Then we drove past the Orleans Caravan Park to the end of the road and walked to another beach. This was not as sheltered and was beautiful. There were a few cars parked on the sand and lots of kids in the water, body boarding on the small waves.
We stayed there for a while, walked around the rocks on the point and headed back towards Esperance.
The guy at the pub had mentioned Dunn Rock so we went down there - that was a massive mistake. The road was very corrugated and it took us ages. We were so over it we just turned around and came out again.
Then we went to Cape le Grande. We went to Lucky Bay first. There was a lot of seaweed on the beach but it was lovely, with rocky outcrops giving it a less serene feel.
Back up the road we went to Frenchman's Peak. This peak is awesome. We thought the lookout was at the bottom of the peak, but we talked to some people there and you can climb it. We wished we were there a lot earlier because the view would have been amazing. It would have taken us 2 - 3 hours because it is very steep. Oh well, it wasn't to be.
Then we went down the bottom of the Cape - the beach there is MAGNIFICENT. You can drive 22km on the beach (but not in my car). There is a massive beach of white sand and the water is so clear and blue - you just can't describe it. There were a few people fishing when we were there.
It was 5pm so we headed back to town. It gets dark here at 5:30pm.
