It was good to get back to Emily and Rob's apartment in Boston. It makes a nice change to actually know where you are going.
The next day took it easy and wandered around and took the bus to Deer Park from where there was a beautiful sunset over the Boston skyline.
The residents have really gone to town on the Halloween decorations.
Yesterday, Halloween, took Peterpanbus from Logan airport to Falmouth. Massachusetts. What a pretty little town!
On the bus I met Alice who encouraged me to go on with her on the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and I could stay in an annex to their house. She said that it was messy and cold. It was fine and not cold at all.
That is her house in the photo above. It is in the middle of the woods.
Martha's Vineyard was all decked out for Halloween. There was a real buzz about the place. In the evening Alice and I went out with her 10 year old twins trick or treating. People were so welcoming with big baskets of treats to hand out.
After a good night's sleep Alice drove me back into town. I took a bus to Edgartown which was once a prosperous whaling station and consequently has some very fancy captains' houses from the early 1800s. We passed Chappaquiddik Creek where one of the Kennedy's was involved with leaving a young woman to drown in his car I think. They don't mention that in the tourist blurb.
Then I went on to Oak Bluffs which was once a camp for spiritual meetings but gradually the tents turned into whimsical, multicoloured 'gingerbread' cottages.
The wind had increased and some ferries were cancelled, so I might have been marooned but it was ok. The wind was strangely warm.
Back on the mainland there was the same friendly bus driver to take me through Falmouth and on to Boston.
I bought a ticket to Bangor (the day we went la la...) for the next day.
I had the key to the apartment as both Rob and Emily were away. There was an amazing sunset over the Boston skyline
It is now the next day!
Left with an hour to spare but one bus was full and then waited for 50minutes and - nothing.
In desperation I stuck out my thumb and loads of cars drove by and then a lovely Moroccan lady stopped for me. We drove to the metro station. I still had to make 2 changes and the trains were packed. There was a big parade as the Boston Red Sox had won the series. Everyone was wearing red with a socks logo.
On the event I missed my bus to Bangor by 5 minutes!
So now hanging around the bus station.
A woman has just vomited on the floor and walked away. I informed the cafe and was told it was nothing to do with them and to go and find security. I said it was nothing to do with me, you go and find security. Security came by, then there was a tannoy call for a cleaner and eventually it was done. You can tell that I have too much time writing drivel like that.
