Thursday night a group of us decided to go out for Chinese, seeing as we have all been craving it!As we walked into what we thought was the restaurant, a woman in a white robe greeted us.We said we'd like a table for seven, and she seemed rather confused. We then realized that this was not the restaurant, but massage therapy—oops. Both places just happened to share the same name and have the same address. The restaurant, called Big House, was really nice. We all shared a bottle of wine and enjoyed a wonderful meal.
Friday was more or less of a catch-up day for Kathryn and me.We walked into town to pick up flowers for the Carmens seeing as it was Valentine's Day and enjoyed our last day with Bengt, the student from Michigan.
Saturday we said our goodbyes to Bengt as he left for a week of traveling before returning back to the states. It was so nice having him here and it made our transition so much easier. After he left, Kathryn and I went to Parque Malpartida with Andrew and Sean.We took a bus out to a nearby town where we then walked 30 minutes to the park.Parque Malpartida consisted of huge boulders that were randomly stationed in the grass. We climbed up one of them, where we then enjoyed a bottle of wine. The cheap wine in Spain is a much higher quality than any Franzia we've ever had, and can be purchased for a Euro.
After our mini excursion, we headed back to Caceres where we then attended mass.It is always neat to attend other services, but it's very different when they are in another language.I comprehended everything that was being said, but responding was a little bit of a challenge.I obviously know the response in English, but the wording is not exactly the same here.I was surprised that mass only lasted about 40 minutes and there were not many young people. I learned in one of my classes that after Francisco Franco passed away, a little bit of the importance of the Catholic faith died with him.During his reign in Spain, he incorporated the church with a lot of what he did and stood for.
