Well 2011 finished with a bang. Fuzzys stag do , Christmas, fuzz wedding along with rugby club ceilidh and trip to the palace. As you can imagine getting on the flight on the 28th was certainly a struggle for 2 reasons. A really bad hangover was one but mainly saying goodbye to mum and dad and also the kids. I will miss them all very much but Ross and Leah I will miss a lot as they are great kids and loved spending time with them.
The flights flew in! And before I knew it was being picked by seaumus aka Jamie at Melbourne international airport in mid twenty degree temperature. It was very strange to gave jumped forward by a day. Leaving on the 28th i arrived there on the 30th even though my total journey time was 26 hours. Skipping a day is a bit surreal ! We drove back to his cracking flat which is in a great area with plenty to do. He is just up from Albert park and the commonwealth pool with plenty shops and cafes in the area. Jamie and Nicola have both settled in well and are enjoying life.
Went and met fiona noble who i used to work with in springburn in the CBD and had a nice lunch before getting to bed to beat the jet lag and of course prepare for Hogmanay !
Sorry forgot to mention Jamie treated me to a fame of golf at Albert park. Maybe I was trying to forget as he destroyed me ! Maybe it was the jet lag but have a sneaky suspicion he has been getting lessons in preparation !
Hogmanay then arrived and after a wee trip to St. Kilda for a Spanish omelette then a coffee and cake we met Dennise ( another ex Springburn employee) and some of Jamie's work colleagues for a nice bite to eat some drinks before we headed to the limerick arms for some refreshments where we brought in the bells.
With some of us suffering the next day aka Nicola and Dennise I was determined, still being somewhat on Scottish time to bring in the new year Scottish style with a cold corona at exactly 11am to coincide with midnight in Scotland. All my best wishes I hope reached the other side of the world.
After 50 lengths , ok 10 puffing and panting lengths of the comnenwealth pool we are now going to sit down to a nice meal cooked by Jamie and tackle a bottle of red vino to start the new year in style although I will be thinking of my family at home sitting having lentil soup and steak pie expertly cooked by my mother with Ross and Leah and rurdhi running around the table.
