Hey, left Melbourne yesterday and headed down the great ocean road. Dennise who I used to work with in Springburn extended her stay with us and we drove in convoy past Geelong and down to Torquay . Luckily for Jamie and Nicola they had a full working AC system while myself and Dennise had a sauna like journey along the princess highway in her "new" yaris! To be fair it did hit a max of 40 degrees at one point but think I lost 2 stone on the journey! Not that I don't appreciate the lift!
Anyway after a pit stop and lunch in Torquay we arrived in Aireys Inlet at approx 3 and checked into our self catering apartment . The first thing we then did is locate somewhere to dine that night! Then we wandered upto the Split point lighthouse (where Round the Twist) was filled and eventually made the beach for a wee dip.
For one I managed to forego the obligatory afternoon nap and we went for a coffee and cake ( Jamie's favourite pastime) in a very eccentric coffee shop! Prior to this Jamie's mix of Glaswegian / aberdonian accent had seen him ask for a portion of chips confused with a poached egg! And a burger translated as a porterhouse steak! I am slowly learning an international accent.
Dinner was at a fancy restaurant which was in the guide book as being one of the best in the area. Mother and father as well as uncle Ian and Elaine from work heavily subsidised this outing for us. One thing that is amazingly different from the uk is the service. It took 25 mins before we were approached for drinks! As you can imagine with my amazing patience levels it did not frustrate me in the slightest!!!!! To be fair after Jamie located a small piece of plastic in his second desert we did get a free round of drinks!
Dennise headed back to Melbourne this morning to work while the 3 of us are off to the 12 apostles as its meant to be 38 degrees today so too hot for the beach! It was good catching up with Dennise over the last few days and has defo helped my transition into oz life easier. I did go for a run and swim this morning at 8 am as well as a fee press ups to go along with my early morning cycle test to St. Kilda. Jamie joined me this morning and he is looking fed to getting some body boards for some wave surfing later. He seems to have mastered catching the waves already so it should be a fun week.
Plenty planned this week so will keep you all updated.
Hope you are well
