G'day mate. Hope you are all well.
We have been in Melbourne for about two weeks now and loving it. We are leaving on tuesday and making our way to sydney to arrive in time for christmas on the beach.
Melbourne is a lovely place with shopping, sights, tours, atmosphere and of course NEIGHBOURS!!!!! We have been out at the casino, eating in the atmospheric lanes in quaint wee cafes, up the tallest building with awesome views of the city, on and off the free tram and bus tours and obviously the Neighbours tour and Neighbours night.
I will tell you about the Neighbours tour first. Off we went to Ramsay Street after a stop to meet one of the stars in St Kilda, a seaside town near melbourne. As we pulled up all i saw was this guy standing munching on a subway with stupid red sunglasses on. On closer examination and watching Jenni salavate next to me i realised it was "Fraser" minus his wheelchair! After a photo shoot and some autographs - from fraser not me - we headed off to Ramsay Street. This was AmaZinG. Iloved it standing where Bouncer the dog once pissed and where Mrs Mangle peered out of her blinds, where they played cricket and where there has been so many deaths, traumas and disasters. We took alot of photos you will see on the blog shortly. Next was Erinsborough High School which is just a language school where they put a sign up before we got a glimpse of the studios and Grease Monkeys - i got a burger, fries and a coke!!!- and the garage. The best was yet to come - The Neighbours night.
It was mobbed with about 250 people and Dylan, Bridget, Mal Kennedy and some other new dude (Jenni would like to point out that his name is Daniel and will be arriving on UK screens soon, worth the wait!) and the one and only LIBBY KENNEDY were there - she is gorgeous xxxx. Anyway we got to meet them all and libby asked me out, sorry she didnt she smiled at me, ok ok not really she glared at me because i was staring! The show was good with Dylan doing an awesome boy band dance it was so funny! He is just like he is on the show! The night progressed and after a few beers the games started. I had had a few too many and was encouraged by Jenni and the girls to enter a singing competition. I know my voice is great especially after a few beers and was keen to show off never mind the 250 crowd. up i went with some Arsenal Do - ball singing something like ARSENAL, ARSENAL , ARSENAL and two liverpool lassies giving it we will never walk alone. well what a load of rubbish until i gave it some Flower of Scotland! It went down relatively well until the end when it came to - and sent him homeward ...........! And i think my gestures were misconstrued by the majority English Crowd. Never to worry i won, probably on account of the others being rubbish and was duly awarded a trip from Melbourne - Sydney. IDEAL! So off we go on tuesday me free, and we just had to pay for jenni for the 3 day tour. Neighbours brings so much love into my life!! (Jenni would like to add that she is a bit worried about this, Ha Ha!) By the way if anyone wants ro know what happens in the next 6 months email me privately and i can fill you in- by the way susan dies, Karl has another affair and Harold disappears again in a Campervan!!
Although nothing will match that experience we have just returned from the Great Ocean Road in our little hire car and a wee tent. The scenery itself has too be seen to be believed although i hope the photos will give you some insight. We ticked off most of the tourist things including - the lighthouse used in the Kids TV programme Round the Twist, The 12 Apostles during the day and at sunset (our Favourite) and London Bridge! We also fitted in some strawberry picking which brought back some childhood memories of sitting in a strawberry field covered in red as euan, jamie and fraser continued to munch there way through a field the size of Wales. We went to the surf coast and the Goldfields of Ballarat. We also watched a great reinactment of the Eureka Battle (1854) which is a bit of the history of the flag of the southern cross which are the stars on the Aussie flag as it is today. The tent was a good experience as well, especially funny was jenni wraped up in 3 layers of clothing her sleeping bag and a blanket ( I had on 2 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of trousers, 1 vest, 1 t-shirt and 3 jumpers and this is Australia in the Summer! It was freezing! Granted our tent only cost us 18 pounds!) It did get pretty cold at night. we both really enjoyed the trip and will always remember the sights we seen.
Its nearing christmas so i hope you all have a good one - we will both miss being home amongst family and friends for christmas but will sure to have a beer or two for each and everyone of you.
Take care love
Gillon and Jenni x
