A very long uncomfortable overnight bus from Cusco up to Nazca. Our hopes here were to take a flight over the mysterious lines. Having bartered with a tour company we agreed on a cheap $50 deal in a 12man plane, this suited us fine. So after striking the deal all we could do was wait, and wait and wait for an available flight. Some people had been waiting for days and paid alot more money so we were down the list of priorities but reassured we would still fly before the day was over. Well we didnt. We gave up and left Nazca around 4pm, not to dissappointed because it was not on our list of things we must do and on a tight budget and timescale we really could not afford to up our price or the time to wait around. Wasting a day waiting was enough for us and there is not much more to see or do in Nazca other than the lines to justify hanging around. So we boarded a bus heading for Ica..
Ica is a pretty big city, but just 4kms out we had been advised to stay in Huacachina. It was dark when we arrived so we did not appreciate where we were, but meant we got a treat when we woke up the next morning and opened our eyes to see we were surrounded by sand dunes, in every direction! Turns out Huacachina is a settlement of about 50buildings in the middle of desert, really novel sweet place. Staying in a gorgeous hostel with a swimming pool and pool side bar we were happy lounging in the sunshine getting a real holiday feel. The only time we left the sun lounger was a 2hour trip out in a sand buggy to do some sand boarding. Speeding around the dunes in a buggy is an adrenaline rush in itself, making me swear at times thinking we were going to roll or topple down the dunes, but great great fun. The boarding is a giggle aswel, I stuck to hurtling down on my tummy at a great speed, but Karen having had surf lessons decided to try it on her feet, lasted all of 2seconds before busting out some acrobatic moves rolley polley gymnast style, board still attached to her feet. I have it all on video and almost cry with laughter everytime I watch it, I will try get it uploaded for all to see. Sand in every place imaginable..
Sorry to leave the loungers and the sunshine but had to move on. Another overnight bus to Trujillo, via Lima. We decided to skip Lima for various reasons, but mainly just another city!!!!
Currently in Trujillo. This blog to be continued, just running out of time on the internet.. Miss u all lots. 4 weeks today we will be landing in Heathrow!!!
Ok, so onto the continuation of our time in Trujillo. We did a day trip, which was the very touristy thing to do. Went to some awesome Ruins and Chan Chan city, which are still in the process of being excavated. Lots and lot of work happening by numerous types of professionals from all over the world. Some excellent stone masonery and tombs. Thankfully our guide was in English so we did learn alot, however the most interesting for me was the Peruvian hairless dogs which are used for therapeutical reasons as there blood is 40degrees to keep them warm, they are pretty ugly dogs tho.
Leaving Trujillo on yet another overnight bus we headed to Mancura, on the coast only 2 hours from the Equadorian border. So we lounged in the sunshine and generally just chilled, I did manage to Scald my poor Scottish skin some more tho! Mancura is a sweet little town with a nice beach if you ignore the washed up dead seals!! Again reluctant to leave our loungers behind, but onwards to Equador..........
