Ok, this is already too much.
I thought I was done with all the pretty beaches and sunny islands. Well, I was dead wrong!
Ilha grande is indeed one of the most beautiful islands I have seen, probably one of the most beautiful in the world. The famous "Lopez Mendez" beach that everybody keeps talking about is definately one of the best, if not THE best beach i've ever seen.
It all strarted in the wonderful Che lagarto hostel, whose balcony offer an amazing view of the ocean.
The hostel is great and the beach proximity is incredible. The wheather was lovely and the sun was powerful.
From the main beach you can either walk to the many cafes and bars on the main street, walk over to a nice beach nearby or take a boat to the famous Lopez Mendez beach.
Let's start by walking over to the closest beach...
The view on the way is taken right out of National Geographic channel, or from your dreams. Turquise water, green trees and clear skies greet you all over.
It's almiost too much to handle, really... But hey - you have to struggle, right? Plus - this is still not the main attraction Ilha Grande has to offer...
So after spending a day at the beach, we must move on to the reason we are here - the Lopes mendez.
Never have I ever seen such alovely beach. So clean and big, so welcoming. the water are so clear you could swear they are filtered!
The sand is thin and white and makes you wonder if it's real or powdered "just add water" sand. The waves are so clear, you can actually see through them. It can't be explained without being there.
Surfers love this beach as well, as its waves are incredible. Rising up to 3 meters high, they can get incredibly dangerous. unfortunately - i had the chance to find out for myself. I was in the water, enjoying the sun and the waves with 3 british girls I met, as we were advancing towards the center of the beach. All of the sudden - we found ourselves in a deep area where we couldn't stand. We started swimming towards the beach, but the waves kept on pulling us deeper into the ocean and splashing on our heads. I started getting really tired and realized that i am hardly making any progress, while slowly getting exhausted. Eventually 2 lifeguards ran from the beach and got to us. Just as they did - we finally made it to a point where we can stand. I was never this close to drowning... Another reminder of how dangerous this beauty could be...
On the way back - we also saw a few monkeys and a dangerous green snake... How lovely :)
At the end I survived and had a wonderful time, so all in all it was worth it...
Heaven on earth once again - Ilha Grande!
From here - I say goodbye to lovely Brazil and the beach and head back to Bolivia - my first south american love! Hope to update about jungle time soon...
