A month has gone by in Columbia already! I could easily spend another 6 months in this country, it's amazing. The whole country has a party atmosphere and the locals are the friendliest I have met (plus the Colombian girls are stunning!)
We started off in Cali, a town referred to a silicon valley as all the women have, um, enhancements. Its also renowned for salsa, so keen as ever to show off my moves we attempted to go to a salsa club. Unfortunately the warm up bottle of rum took its toll and we couldn't even get into the club. We had to resort to the rejects bar next door, still an amazing night though from what I can remember.
Aftr a couple days in Cali we headed up to the capital Bogota. We had met some locals whilst in Ecuador so we met up with them for a big night out. They took us to the coolest club I have ever seen, good food, dancing on the tables, wiskey by the bottle, and some more of my dodgy salsa moves!
We had intended to visit the coffee region but due to unforseen circumstances we spent a bit too long in Bogota so we went straight up to Medellin. This is the home of Pablo Escobar so we did the tour, visited his grave, tried on his toupee and then met his brother - nicknamed 'little bear'. He seemed strangely normal and told us a few stories about the cartel drug running days and aparently how they have a cure for AIDS.......
Another couple of big nights out later we had yet again overstayed our welcome and thought we'd best actually do something in the country other than party and drink so we headed to a little fishing village called Taganga and did a diving course. Apparently its the cheapest place in the world to learn to dive, you definately get value for money, I loved every minute of it. On the final day we came accross a turtle and swam around with him for a while, such a good experience. Can´t wait until we get to Honduras to do some more!
Although it sounds like all we did in Colombia was party, we did attempt some cultral stuff, museums, churches and stuffs but when in rome.
After a month of drinking and partying we needed a trek to detox. We headed into the jungle for a 5 day trek to the lost city. It was certainly an experience, not necessarily one I ever want to repeat. The heat was insane as was the constant onslaught from Mosquitos! The scenery was stunning however and the guide, Carlos, was a legend: the best moustach in South America and he thought it was hilarious every time one of us fell down a cliff or got swept away in the river.
So ends the South American journey, onwards and upwards to Panama, well maybe there's time for one more fiesta before I leave..........
Hope you're all good, keep in touch,
Gibb
