Wow, its been a crazy busy couple of weeks since the last update! After all the trecking we headed to Mancora, which is at the northern tip of Peru. its meant to be good surfing so the idea was to chill on the beach for a couple days and learn to surf..... unfortunitely this isn't exacdtly what happened. We drank far too much, lay on the beach and got sunburnt and didn't even attempt to surf. Still it was nice to chill for a couple of days.
After I was recharged we got another night bus into Ecuador. I can 100% say that it was the most uncomfitable trip I have even taken in my life. I was ill due to the local cusine and being trapped in a rattly old bus did not help matters. The que to get stamped into Ecuador also posed a few issues but I won't go into details! It wasn't pretty.
The first stop in Ecuador was Porta Lopez, it's a small little fishing town on the south west coast. The main attraction are the whales which visit every year just off the coast. We took a trip out on a small boat and soon enough found the big guys..... and they were BIG. I've been whale watching a couple times before but never got anywhere near as close as we did this time. The whales were breaching (jumping out of the water) which was spectacular to watch.
We stayed in a small hostel in the town which was basic to put it politely..... my window was where some of the blockwork had been smashed out of the wall, the shower consisted of some unfinished pipework sticking out of the wall, unfortunitely they hadn't connected the other end to water either. However after I had finished b****ing about the state opf the hotel I found the the family who own it all live in two tiny rooms shared between about 20 people. Sometimes it makes you realise how lucky you have it.
The next stop was Quito, not much to report from here. We basically spent two days trying to arrange a last minute trip to the Galapados Islands. We were also given a 30 minute introduction to the city in which we were just told about the different methods used to steal from tourists. If the aim was to make me paranoid.... mission accomplished!
We flew out to the Galapados with high hopes. We had booked the smallest cheapest boat availible and many of the travel agents had told us they didn't even deal with this boat due to the number of complaints received....
I can't even begin to explain how good it was, I have never been anywhere so amazing in all my life, widelife everywhere! We went snorkelling twice a day and got to swim with sea lions, turtles, and sharks. I've just put a load of photos up on facebook which explain better than I ever could. GO THERE! I would happily have paid double what I paid to go!
It was only a brief encouter with Ecuador unfortunitely, there was so much more I wanted to see but the Galapados wiped out my funds so onwards and upwards to Colombia! I need to start my career as a drug dealer to pay for this trip!
