Apart from the war museum we didn't participate in much activity apart from drinking in Ho Chi Minh City. At 28p a beer and two for one in most bars, it's hard to blame us. Today, which was our last day, we decided to venture out a bit and explore the capital.
We started off with the massive indoor market which we had tried to go to the night before but obviously shut as soon as we got there! As far as markets in South East Asia go, this one was pretty good. Frankie commented on how we weren't really getting pestered to buy stuff as we had done previously in Cambodia. This obviously tempted fate on a whole new level. Within minutes we were being grabbed, being sweet talked by saying we were beautiful and at one point being told we would make them cry if we didn't buy anything! At one point we had a Mexican wave of elephant pants thrown into our faces by about ten neighbouring stalls all throwing different prices at us. One cheeky tiny Vietnamese lady even tried to sell then by shouting that she had "big big" sizes that would fit us. Good customer service there. Tiny b****.
After being guilted into buying two hand painted bowls made out of coconuts and a pair of unneeded chopsticks (although the bowls are pretty cool) we had to get out of the chaos. We had a stroll round and ended up in a cute restaurant. As we were eating out fried noodles a massive monsoon swept in meaning we were stuck in the restaurant/bar and unfortunately had to buy some alcohol. Hard life.
Our afternoon including a nice stroll along the river, watching the locals fishing and booking our flights for after Vietnam. We got some good deals and have planned to fly to Singapore which we will explore for two days. Ideally I'd like to make more of Singapore but we've been pre warned constantly of how expensive it is in comparison to other Asian countries. Then from Singapore were popping to Bali for our last week and a half which I'm very much looking forward to. Not to wish Vietnam away at all though! We are currently on a very coloratura phobic two floored bunk bed night bus on our way to Nha Trang. I did enjoy HCM and so far very much like Vietnam but we are definitely ready for some time back on the beach!
