Hello everyone!
Yes Ive been s*** in not writing for a while...once you get out of the rhythm of writing everyday and then you stop and put it off for a night, it takes a while to get back into it, especially when you are using hostel computers and there is a line of people waiting to book their accommodation and flights...obviosly more important than my useless thoughts!
So, Im in Malaga on the southern coast of Apain! but before I go into that, I have to fill you in on one city I didnt get a chance to write about...Sevilla!
Sevilla is in the South West of Spain and was our next stop after Lagos. We felt that we had successfully sqeezed Lagos of all it had to offer- beaches, drinking, partying, Aussies! and it was time for a change. After a 5 hour bus ride , we arrived at the Oasis in Sevilla, a modern hostel that unfortunately had two buildings where Jess and V had to sleep in the "maids quarters" while I got to sleep in the building with the pool. That first night we went on the tour that the hostel was operating where they took us to tapas and then authentic flamenco dancing. Ive decided that tapas and spanish beer makes me very happy! I cant touch sangria after that awful booze cruise so ive been drinking Spains finest...San Miguel and Allumbra! The flamenco was performed to a captivated audience of about 100, crammed into a sweaty, smoky bar where the air was think with the smell of wine and beer. It was a cool thing to watch as everyone was really quiet, as they didnt use microphones.
After that we went to this bizarre "religious bar" where you could get a drink called "the holy blood of christ". The whole place was decorated with shrines to the virgin mary and jesus and apparently is really popular during the religious festivals and Easter. Kinda creeped me out a bit and V also wasn’t too keen. THEN our tour guide told us that we were going home but took us on an adventure! We broke in to a fancy hotel and went to their rooftop terrace and had the best view of the Catedral at night! We then walked all the way down to the river and went to this tiny bar where there were a group of men singing Spanish a capella, so loudly with their backs to the audience who were only able to see by candle light. I also must mention that by this time of night V and myself were falling asleep, I think it was about 3? And V got walked in on in the mens toilet! Hehe
The rest of the time spent in Sevilla was visiting a “2km” graffiti wall (turned out it was only 200m), the gardens, the Real Alcazar and, a dodgy free tour, eating tapas with Meagan and of course, the Catedral! I caught a later bus to Malaga so I could meet up with Meagan and visit the Catedral and the Real Alcazar- a palace in the city. We walked up the Tower of Giralda (which the monks used to do in horseback apparently) which was an amazing view of the city and also quite good exercise!
I really loved Sevilla; the city streets, the places, the people and food. I felt as if I only got a taste of what the city really has to offer and vowed to myself that one day I would go back and stay for longer.
Phew that was an effort! Will write soon on our Malaga adventures…
