Spring Break!!!!
Rachel and I are now almost halfway thorugh our spring break adventure in which we´ve had a super fun time!
day 1 (7/4/09)
We spent the first 3 day in Dublin which was really cold- 5 degrees, and windy! We arrived there last Tuesday taking a 6.30am flight from Livs after a night of little sleep. We dumped our s*** at the hostel- Globetrotters- and preceded to wander around the town until we were allowed to check in (2pm). We made our way to the tourist office where we discovered that there were free tours running at the convenient time of 11am... we had an hour!!! So we wnt along to the first (of many) free tour and got treatedto a musical perforance by the very enthusiatic tour guide, ali, who played an irish song on the tin whistle for us on our lunchbreak.
Things that I remember: the hoax plaque on the o´connell bridge, a mummfied cat and mouse that had climbed up a church organ, trinity college library, the viking house that was in the pavement, the giant spike in the middle of town, temple bar, seeing where U2 were discovered, halfpenny bridge.
after the tour we crashed and I slept the restof the day.
day 2
Spent the day in bed sick. :(
Rachel visited her grandmothers old house in Kildere and went to Christchurch.
Went to Temple Bar for a drink- 9.5 euro for a whiskey and coke and Rachel had half pint of Guiness for 4.5!!
day 3
Felt better.
Did a Celtic tour that cost about 27 euro!! got taken in a minibus with a tourguide to Celtic sites around the Dublin countryside. Had Molly Malone and Whiskey in the Jar in my head ALL DAY!!
We went to: 5000 year old mound with oldest picture of face carved into the rock, saw some horses... this is what the website says:
Explore the Hill of Tara, Seat of Power of the old High Kings of Ireland. Wander amongst the prehistoric tombs, underground passages and graves of Fourknocks, built before the great pyramids of Egypt more than 5000 years ago. See the mysterious Monasteries and High Crosses of Mellifont Abbey and Monasterboice. Finally, return home via the Hill of Slane where St. Patrick lit a Paschal Fire in 433 A.D. to proclaim Christianity throughout Ireland.
We did this but in a different order. The church ruins were cool to explore and the Hill of Tara was also cool but it was rainy and feeying and windy and I was still ick so not incredibly enjoyable but nevertheless interesting. Had a giant lunch-roast with vegies.. yum!
