Ola!
Im writing this after a long day of walking, expolring the city with the lovely Meghie, my CS host for Porto and a nice communal dinner at the hostel.
Meghie showed me some amazing places around the city which I never wouldve found on my own... the Crystal palace- a public garden which had stunning views of the Duoro River and banks, my breath was literally taken away! It reminded me of Welolington with all the houses down the hill into the bay. We also went to Casa de Musica, their new music complex which is very modern and cool with a little babysitting room or children which they are able to watch the show and see their parents, and also this motion detecting sound device which made music as you walked past. We had luch as a nice cheap place, where I had my first healthy meal in days! Salad has never tasted so good after days of bread and pasta! We also walked down to the Riberia and took a tram to Foz and back. It was so cool to get guided around the city by a local and also to have such nice company! I am so happy that I did it!
Last night, just quickly, we went into town to the famous Cafe Piollio and witnessed the most bizarre thing! There was a procession of studnets in black cloaks all holding long lit garden steaks marching around the square which was crowded with people. It looked like some sort of cult gathering but it was actually to commemorate the Cafes 100 year birthday and the outfits are traditional of portuguese students. I have decid4ed that Cristal Pilsner is my potuguese beer of choice and that ill be sticking to that for as long as possible...that is when sangria is not an option! ;) Also Ive taken careful note that Potuguese boys are very good looking and will be hard to top in terms of looks and demeanor. Good luck Spaniards and French, my standards are high!
Heading to Lisbon tomorrow and on Monday will be seeing Jess and V! Cant wait! Sunburn has died dwn but still painful...hopefully for not much longer!
Over and out... G
