Georgie's trip to India
Day 4
We started at the Observatory today in Jaipur, the Jantar Mantar. It has handmade structures in it the can tell the time with accuracy of 20secs!
Then we headed over to the City palace which had rooms and rooms of textiles, ornaments and the two largest pieces of silver in the world (urns)! It was the principal residence of the former royal family, they still live in part of it and we saw the Maharaja!
After lunch we headed to the Amber Fort and there were elephants bathing in the lake in front of it! The fort was full of intricate passageways and had beautiful gardens and carvings. - I got lost!!!
We headed back to the hotel and everyone was off to see a Bollywood movie - Kate and I didn't fancy it so got dropped off in the centre and what a great choice!!! It was the festival of Ede and two other celebrations were taking place. We literally bumped into two painted elephants who we stroked and fed and got caught up in the sikh parade. They were wearing white with green turbans and flags, thousands of them on trucks parading through the city with music -it was amazing!! We walked along a side street draped with Saris it was like walking into Aladin's cave with all the glittering fabric. We managed to find our own way about 3km - which is no easy feet in India to the theatre and grabbed a coffe before heading back - what a busy day!!
