Had a fairly cruisy day today. Got up late and wandered down to the middle of town to visit the catholic church. It was right up there with some of the churches I've seen in the Vatican, really beautiful architecture and mosaics on the walls.
Later that day we got taken about 3000m up Mount Tungurahua by a crazy man called Mario. He insisted we call him Super Mario, and drove like a bat out of hell. Mount Tungurahua is a highly active volcano in Baños standing at just over 5000m and last erupted in February this year, you can still hear it rumbling and smoke pouring out of the crater. Unfortunately when we went up the mist was covering the peak so we didn't get a good look, but back up entertainment was found in the form of an old man riding a donkey down the hill making his dog jump for mints for the camera. Neat. Check the videos I'm going to try upload it.
On the way back to the jeep Super Mario sang us his favourite English song which goes "whooaaa black berry bam ba lam". None of us had the heart or the balls to tell him it's actually "black betty". After nearly driving us off the cliff several times, Super Mario got us back safe in time for dinner. I managed to get a roaring fire going in the fireplace in our room and snuggled into bed....bliss! Tomorrow weather permitting we will do the canyoning and zip line. Fingers crossed!
