So we arrived in Salvador and got a got to Pelerino and had a not very nice experience...he dropped us off in the middle of a plaza and directed us down a side street saying he wasnt going to drive us down there...the car was then almost swarmed by local people...bare in mind we arrived at 1am! A guy then grabbed Lizzies bag and marched it t the hostel and demanded money from us all...he was pretty scary!! So we gave it to him and went in to what I can only describe as a shack of a hostel...with almost a shop downstairs and the rooms had bunkbeds of three and as they hadnt been finished someone could climb into our room from the top bunks which faced the wood chip board that separated the rooms! Needless to say we didnt sleep too well and left the next morning ASAP!
The next day it looked a lot safer...its the old historical district of Salvador...so we looked around and headed for Barra which we read was a lot safer and more fun! We looked at a few hostels and decided on one on the beach...we dropped our bags and headed to the beach with crystal sea and very hot sand...we hired chairs which also include anything you want they are there to give it to you and come around pouring cold water on your feet! We also tried cheese on a stick that they heat on the beach! We met a very nice couple who we went for dinner with that night..we also met some girls on an exchange who came along too...was good fun!
We then tried to find a beach that was supposedly the 3rd best beach in the world...we got on a bus there...well what we thought was a bus that drove soo fast, had blarring music and was smoking and on the phone whilst dodging and dancing in and out of cars! We then got told half way through around the time of the carnival people hire buses and drive people around to earn some money...most interesting bus I have ever got on!
We visited a place called Prior de Faute which is a turtle town so we saw lots of turtles and sting rays...it was such a pretty town with loads of nice restaurants and shops...we wished we could of stayed there but it looked very expensive!
We had a lot of problems trying to book getting to Rio as we are not Brazilian and therefore they dont let you book or pay for anything online which worked out quite annoying! But we managed to get a flight eventually...although everything is a lot more expensive because of the carnival! We saw two small parades going through the street at nights which were awesome...such a good atmosphere with everyone dancing singing and drinking through the streets!
The last day we just chilled on the beach and Angelica cooked us some dinner and we were off to Rio de Janeiro!
Overall Salvador was really cool...very chilled and some really nice places but also can be quite sketchy at night...but I live to tell the tale!
Hope you are all well!
