We arrived in Florence in the late afternoon and checked into our hostel which happened to be an ex monastery. Once we'd sorted ourselves out we caught the bus into the centre, but ended up a bit further out as we got off at the wrong stop! We walked around for a bit before finding a restaurant outside for dinner, I went for a traditional Spaghetti Bolognese. We got the bus back to our hostel as we weren't too keen on a long walk back without a map!
On our first proper day in Florence we decided to walk into town, stopping for a late breakfast on the way. It was a lovely day so we enjoying walking around the pretty streets and down by the river. We sat on the river side for a while in the sun which was very nice. Once we'd got ourselves an ice cream we went to one of the big squares where there was a flag baring display going on. There were lots of local teams competing and in the wind it looked like quite hard work, especially the tiny little kids doing it! Next we made our way to the cathedral which looked lovely with the sun shining down on it. We sat listening to a live band play for a while before heading down to the river for a cocktail. Florence is a very pretty city and so we enjoyed just wandering around and sitting in the sun to take it all in. For dinner we headed to a bar which puts on a free buffet when you buy a drink. The food was really good and so was definitely worth it! We also got chatting to an American couple who were really friendly. Then we made the half an hour walk back to our hostel - getting used to all the walking now I think!
Our next stop is now Milan after a bit of deliberation! Unfortunately we had to wait a couple hours for the train as they were all full but only an hour and a half train there!
Just over a week left!!
