Getting to Bologna wasn't as simple as planned, we accidentally got on the slow train when we had to change in Milan, so arrived two hours later than we thought. Then finding the B&B was also a bit of a struggle but eventually we found it! We dumped out bags and went straight out to find food.
Bologna is a big university city so is full of young people and had a quite a lively, friendly atmosphere. We wandered the streets and visited one of the churches (which was a bit dull to be honest) before getting a drink and sitting in the sun. There was a big square near our B&B which was filled with students sat around chatting and live music playing. As we'd had lunch very late we just had a slice of pizza for dinner, which was tasty!
On our second day we headed to one of the big piazzas/squares where there seemed to be an event on with a big stage and lots of market stalls. Bologna was a really pretty city as all the buildings were medieval and barely any ugly modern ones, which often look out of place. For lunch we enjoyed a traditional meal of Tortellini El Ragu which was very good - couldn't resist having bolognese in Bologna!! On our walk back to the B&B to get our bags, there was a male choir singing in one of the side streets which was quite entertaining.
Overall, Bologna really exceeded our expectations and we really enjoyed visiting the city.
Next stop... Venice!
