Been working whenever possible with a few days being rained off. I was starting to make some some reasonably good money picking oranges, and then we were all moved back to mandarins and tangerines averaging about £50/day. Some of us were told that we wouldn't be back picking oranges any time soon and we all decided to check out other jobs in the area. I rang Madec (the local job agency) and was given two numbers for local contractors. i have heard rumours that some contractors rip you off and also employ illegal workers, so i was a liitle worried about making the call. After speaking to a few of my friends on the camp, i found out that they were working for a guy called Jamie, which happened to be one of the numbers i was given. Jamie was really friendly on the phone and a few of us are now working for him full-time. Instead of working in the same place every day, we work wherever we're needed and so far it's been working out pretty well. On my first day i managed to earn twice as much money for about 3 hours less work. Also been picking avocados an hourly rate which is by far the best picking i have personaly experienced so far.

Daniel Matthews Good to hear, soon you will be a picking pro and be in the newspaper. I can see the headline now "Local swindon girl picks her way to the top!" It has a kind of ring to it...........
