On Inhabiting India
last night, we went to the hindi version of "othello" called "omkara". luckily i knew the story as i do not speak a word of hindi. i really enjoyed the movie despite the language difference. we were all very amused by the fact that no one in the movie kissed the entire time, but they definitely showed everything else in the similar category. apparently kissing is more scandalous than everything else. it definitely portrayed the idea that kissing is more terrible than the large amount of violence shown in the film. they also portrayed all the women as very one dimensional and sickeningly playful. not to be all "women are victims"-like, but it was just something i noticed.
today I move in with my family and i will not miss hotel life. I will miss the ability of the group to be together often without being in a classroom environment, but many things were starting to get to me. The constant barging into our rooms by the staff when my roommate and I are getting dressed, the ketchup being a substitute for tomato sauce, and then hearing someone scamper away from our door right when we are about to open it (like someone is watching our room) was amusing at first, but i guess not too much anymore.
Sorry this is written fast, my internet is about to time out.
