Hi everyone, we are still at Airlie Beach and just returned from our boat trip having managed to get our boat for our Whitsunday Islands early. We're still swaying as we write this!
We set off on Tuesday evening on the Anaconda 3 sailing yacht. We boarded at 7.30pm and met the crew and our sailing buddies, greeted with champagne...very nice!? We set off that evening to Nara Inlet where we spent our first night on board. After a very rocky journey to Nara Inlet, we finally stopped for the night. Gem feeling very very sick...never have before on a boat but felt awful!? We awoke the next morning early for breakfast and set off for Whitehaven Beach which is supposed to be the 3rd most beautiful beach in the world?!? here we chilled on the beach and had our introductory diving brief course with the diving instructor Clem. The sand was pure white, and so fine. Its not actually sand, its silica which is very fine and it doesnt stick to you like sand! The water at Whitehaven was so clear!? We then set off for our first dive at Luncheon Bay. Here the water was'nt so clear but we had to dive here before going out to the Barrier reef which would be an open water dive. We both enjoyed the first 15 mins of our dive, but after that we were'nt too comfortable so deep under water and was glad to surface and breath normally again. We then had lunch, which Gem still feeling very sick managed to puke it all up!? Urgh!? We stayed at Luncheon Bay for the night which was a very rocky night's sleep. The boat was tipping all over the place!? The next day we woke and sailed out to the Barrier Reef and stopped at Bait Reef. Here we snorkelled in open ocean water which was quite scary thinking anything could swim up to you. Gem feeling very proud of her accomplishment considering she never liked going in the sea!? Rocky then went on his 2nd dive into the open water where he saw stingray's, lots of gorgeous coral, a huge clam fish and loads of fish's!? Gem decided not to dive this time, still feeling queezy and rough from the previous day. Rocky really enjoyed this dive, felt more at ease and the water was so clear.
We then sailed to Blue Pearl Bay for the night. We watched the sunset from the beach with an eski (cool box) full of goon (cheap aussie wine!) and beer. This was cool. We were then so lucky to spend the rest of the evening watching about 6 dolphins swimming, playing and catching squid around our boat, all under the most stars we have ever seen. We saw the milkyway!? The dolphins swam for hours keeping us entertained and were joined by about 8 reef sharks some of which who were pestering one of the dolphins who had an open wound :(? Gem and some of the girls nealy crying and ready to throw things at the sharks!!!? The crew were amazed by the dolphins and said they've never seen this before on their trips.
The last day we awoke early again for breaky and snorkelled at Blue Pearl Bay. This place was like an aquarium.? Hundreds of different kinds of fish surrounding you in the water.? We saw another clam fish, stingray and lots of different tropical fish and coral.? Totally amazing and loved every minute of it.
We then sailed back to Abel Point Marina at Airlie Beach where we had farewell champagne toast, said goodbye to the crew and captin Buster!? We then went to an after party Fri night where we met up with everyone again, loads of beer, dancing on the tables...great night.? Very drunk and ended up staggering home at 3.30am this morn!?
We met some really cool people and again was sad to say goodbye :(
