We arrived in Cairns on Thurs 24th May and stayed for a week. From the moment we arrived on the coach, more or less till we boarded our flight to Darwin a week later...it rained, rained and rained some more. When we say it rained, we mean belted it down!!! It was so hot and muggy in Cairns, still about 30degrees.
We probably had our most boring time in Cairns since we have been away. We didnt find much do do in Cairns and for a big city it seemed somewhat out of date. But then it probably didnt help that the weather was so bad, otherwise we could have found more things to do other than walk around in our rain macs, sweating because of the intense humidity!
So what did we do in Cairns? Went to the cinema to see Pirates of the Caribbean 3, The Number 23 and Stomp The Yard (yes 3 cinema trips...we were that bored!) and spent time in the covered/air conditioned shopping centre! Oh and we went bowling!
Other than that, our accommodation at Shenannigans Irish Bar was good, but very loud music till 2am most nights! We did get cheap drinks and 50% off the menu which was a bonus!
We held out for a week in Cairns hoping for the weather to clear up, but it didnt and forecast didnt look too good so we decided to head to Darwin which we did on Weds 30th May... tans fading fast so plan to catch some rays whilst in Darwin!!!
