This will probably be my last entry from the States as I leave in 5 days. I'm in Chicago at the moment. The train journey up here wasn't TOO bad, and the stop off I made in Washington DC meant I got to hook up for lunch with my cousin Anyka, which was cool!
My first day in the city was a bit of a nightmare - Amtrak lost my bags! - I couldn't get through to the Polish guys I'm here to visit on their mobile, and the Russian people living above them denied all knowledge of them and sent me on my way - GREAT - THANKS!
It all worked out ok though, at least I didn't have to lugg my heavy bags about, and I booked into a really nice Hostel right in the middle of everything in Downtown, so it couldn't have been better! Met some cool people in my room aswell, two of them were fellow Essex girls - from Colchester!
After arriving here at 08.30 on Saturday morning (wearing the same clothes I set off from Atlanta in on Thursday night, bar my extra knickers!) Amtrak finally got my bags to Chicago at 17.20 on Monday night! I'd resorted to holding up in the Hostel in nothing but a towel so I could wash all my stuff and be a BIT less manky!
Anyway, with all that in the past, I've hooked up with the lads (who were at the house I'd been to, but live in the basement) and done pleanty of cheesey tourist things in the city. Been up Sears Tower, watched the fireworks from Navy Pier, been to the Planetarium, and loads more!
The guys live in the Polish district, which is a short train ride from Downtown, and EVERYTHING is Polish. It's pretty cool 'cause you can walk the streets and almost forget you're in the USA! Went to a Polish night club when we first hooked up, and couldn't stop laughing at the place. The guys didn't quite get what I found so amusing, but it was full-on 80's! Every song that came on was a cheesey classic, and the people on the dance floor were all taking themselves really seriously - you had to see it to appreciate just how bizarre it was.
Anyway, the City is waiting, places to go, things to see! I fly outta here on Tuesday, get home Wednesday morning, and then I head to Cork Friday. It's all go! But I'm sure I'll catch up with you all real soon. Love and stuff. x x x
