Hey everyone,
Currently in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand where we have spent the last couple of days. First few were fairly uneventful, flower festival, night bazaars, bars which get closed down by the police, etc! Today was awesome though, we went white water rafting and then mountain biking in the hills near Chiang Mai. At one point we managed to get stuck on a rock and so much water was going over us, the boat was pretty much completely submerged! The mountain bike ride started off as a nice leisurely affair with views of mountains, rivers and a few elephants grazing. If we thought it was going to stay that way we were badly mistaken! The ride culminated in a lung-busting uphill drag that had us panting for air, not quite as a fit as we thought we were!
Before Chiang Mai we spent a few days in Sukhothai where once again bikes were our transport of choice. We travelled around the ruins on the most old-fashioned bikes you are likely to come across, I don't think antique is too far off the mark! The ruins were amazing because there were very few tourists there so we could just chill out and read or in my case top-up the already quite outstanding tan! On the final day there we went on a mountain bike tour around the surrounding village and we learnt about tobacco drying and rice growing. The people were so friendly and the lack of tourists made it feel like a fairly unique experience.
Off trekking for three days tomorrow to the hilltribes near Chiang Mai so if we don't get into some sort of shape by the end of that we never will! Haven't got a lot more to say at the moment so I will bid farewell.
Take care of yourselves, will be lovely to hear from you.
Graeme
