After we arrived on the train, we went to our hotel. The Autorickshaw driver would not take us, as his little machine could not get up the hill so we ended up in a taxi - copy of a 1960s Morris Oxford. We found out why it could not get there as we went up and up.The hotel was on a hill outside Ooty with lovely views over the surrounding hills. It was like being in the Alps.
We found out later it was similar to the Alps as come 5:00 pm the temperature started to fall.We were the only guests in the hotel that night so got super service. They lit a fire in the room and we stood over that trying to get warm.We had dinner in the dinning room but did not stay there long as it was not heated. In the night it got colder and colder.
Next day as soon as the sun was up it was warm again and we were off round Ooty - famous for it's botanical gardens and chocolate - I preferred the chocolate.
We met a Canadian couple who spent 4 months of the year traveling - seems like a nice life - and went round with them to various places the next day by Taxi.We saw a tea factory - interesting, another garden (OK) a look out where you could see down to the plains (spectacular but it showed how polluted the atmosphere is in India).
We froze again that night but at least they had lit some more fires in the main rooms.Discovered Indian soup is the best way to warm up.
