We left early to get train to Aurangabad - we had pre booked over the internet. It was an early start - at the station by 5:45 for 6:10 train. We were in Chair Class which was air conditioned and reasonably comfortable. This is the way the Indian middle class travel and is quite civilized - free tea, breakfast bought to your seat - breakfast was good (omlette) but we had to use our fingers as no cutlery was supplied.
Train arrived about 20 mins late - the trip took 7 hours. We decided to book our next trip which was overnight in a couple of days.We got to the reservation office and were shown the queue for tourists, freedom fighters (Army) and disabled people. The staff were on a break - we emerged 2 hours later with nearly the reservation we wanted - couldn't get two tier sleepers only had the 3 tier left - decided to use the Internet from now on!
As there was something going on in Aurangabad, we were staying out of town at Ellora Caves - so another bus which was a little crowded.Fran had visions of being dropped in the middle of nowhere, but it took us to right outside the hotel.
The Ellora caves were carved out over the course of a thousand years and consisted of lots of individual temples in the caves. They were quite spectacular. They had all been carved without the use of scaffolding -when you saw them quite a feat.
