Arrived in Skagway - it was freezing!!!! Put on many layers as today we were going on the Ocean Raft Wilderness Excursion. Our excursion was not until 12.30pm so we decided to walk downtown first and have a look around. What a quaint place! Very oldie worldy and the shops were all made of wood; this is the place where you can get the train up into the mountains and to Yukon. After walking around the shops we went back to the pier and met up with "Captain Ashley" for our Ocean Raft Wilderness Excursion. We boarded a bus and were taken to put on our "suits". We were advised to remove some of the layers we were wearing as the suits would be warm enough! The suits were huge and very orange! We got to our raft and were given the usual safety info and told how to get on to the raft; we sat on jockey type seats and told to "hold on!" Then…we were off! We shot off at a race of knots on the speed boat - it was great fun - we did lots of sharp turns and doughnuts. Occasionally Captain Ashley would slow down the speed boat and pull right up to a cascading waterfall - amazing! We were also told to watch out for bald eagles, goats, squirrels, whales and bears. Sadly we didn't see any bears or whales, but we saw a little seal pup who bobbed his head up when we were close to a waterfall, we also saw a pair of bald eagles. Another brilliant excursion, with absolutely amazing scenery!
When we got back to our ship we went swimming in the indoor pool (it was rather chilly outside) and had a lovely Jacuzzi and met and chatted to a sweet couple from Canada (Toronto) who were on their honeymoon!
Went for dinner and I ordered the Alaskan salmon - I can honestly say it was the best salmon I have ever tasted!
