Left Dawson River 0915. Today was the first time we had any idea where we may end up. Cracow had been recommended by a number of travelers we have met. It is a gold mining town which once boasted a population of 7000. At last count the population is now 7!!!! There are however around 200 miners who work 7 on 7 off and live in single men's quarters on the mine site. The pub is the only business surviving in the town.
The pub is REALLY different. Will post a photo tomorrow. Barmaids are skimpily dressed blonde backpackers. The miners just love the pub!!!
The mining company has provided excellent facilities for travelers like us with brand new toilets and showers and power supplied, all for free (donation).
Took today's photo between Theodore (where we stopped to do some laundry) and here. In the middle foreground is tree Lucerne which is grown for stock fodder, and in the background - showing light coloured- is a crop of cotton.
Will stay here a day or two to explore.

Wayne What about old grey nomads - do they just love the pub!!!!??? Rain stopped around lunch time yesterday. 6mm in the guage which doesn't seem all that much given the noise it made on the roof!!! Pest man in yesterday. I asked Gene if he did possums. Frankies name was mentioned. Quite day here by the fire reading and relaxing.
Gray Sutcliffe Only been to Kracow (also spelt Cracow) in Poland. I wonder if it was named after it? Weather has been great for touring, any signs of farmers complaining of lack of rain? Welcome to stay with us (own ensuite provided!) when coming South. We will be in Brisbane 24-26 Aug and Tassie 12-23 Sept, otherwise staying put. No doubt hats and sunblock are in constant use. gaylenjim Interesting you say that Gray. The original owner of Cracow Station after which the town was named had a Polish wife and one theory is that she named the station after the place in Poland where she was born. I personally subscribe to that theory. The other explanation is that the place was named after the sound of a stock whip. I can't come at that. It is very dry but has obviously been a bumper year. There is so much feed about, it is amazing. Grass as high as the backs of the cattle. Not overstocked so it looks great but I am sure they would like some more rain to boost the new season.
Your son I am so ashamed... You mention the local staff and how much of a draw card they are, yet you share a photo of a grassy paddock... Sheesh...You've changed...
