Well, left Renner Springs at 8:15am got a short way down the track when we heard a squeaky noise like a fan belt slipping, but it was ok, then we thought it might be the water pump so we rang RAA. A tow truck came from Elliot 90 Kms back and arrived at 11:am, he was unable to help us so we travelled in the tow truck back to Elliot, arrived there at 12:30pm. The mechanic took bits apart and said the noise was coming from inside the engine. So to cut a long story short and after several phone calls we had to select an overnight bag of clothes etc. to catch the 11pm overnight bus to Alice Springs and plane to Adelaide tomorrow at 12:30pm so will be home Sunday night. To wait out our time in Elliot we had a room at the local pub which had ensuite rooms in the backyard. Built in, who knows when, tiled and decorated last in the 80s, and let's say in desperate need of maintenance! We had a drink at the bar in the afternoon and then went back for dinner, we thought snittys might be the safest option and they were good.
The car will be following on a truck but don't know when! It was my first ride in a tow truck and they are very high, so the driver drove up to a rock to help me climb in, then to get out, he got a forklift truck, put a pallet on it to lower me down! Waiting in the dark for the bus will be interesting, the bar tender told us to be there by 10:30 because if it's early it will drive straight past if we are not there. Wish us luck! See you all next in Adelaide.
