Yesterday was a travel day as we flew from Paris to Madrid. On arrival at the hotel we ventured up to the rooftop pool and spent an enjoyable afternoon and I put in a reasonable training session for the forthcoming swim.
After that we were tired and want to go out so we ventured near to the hotel. We were pleased to find that we are staying right in the thick of it and there were restaurants everywhere.
It was not difficult to find a very pleasant restaurant to have some tapis. One of the things about Europe is there is this practice of people doing things for you without asking and then expecting to be paid for it. A musician with a violin approached our table and commenced playing. I gestured to him to stop as I had no cash. I tapped my pockets to genuinely indicate to him that I had no money as I was sure he expected to be remunerated. Unfortunately, it was generally true that I had no money and again I gestured him away. Eventually after several songs he put out is hand in expectation of payment. I turned up my pockets again to demonstrate that I generally have no money. It was only when I presented my MasterCard to him that eventually scowled and walked away.
