Gary's World Adventure
Hey folks...I survied the madness of Cambodia and after a very amusing 10hr journey I safely arrived in Vietnam.....The border was like stepping from 3rd world into civilisation again....The journey was very funny being shuffled from coach to coach...! Because my name was on a different list...what list you might be asking well thats just what I was asking....complete madness, thankfully all I could do was laugh!
Saigon is motor bike manic there must be millions of mopeds and pedal bikes here....and knowone has any sense - its every man for themselves...I rode on the back of several...wow scary mary is an understatement!
Well as Im in Vietnam and with all the war and history here a trip to the tunnels and war remenants museum was on the top of my list....Chu Chi tunnels is where the vietnamese soldiers hid during the night time with the war with america...the tunnels completely amazed me and you all know me as soon as their was the offer to go down I was straight their...only one of four in the group...I crawled on my hands and knees in complete darkness for 30k...what an experience I loved it! Also remember vietnamese people are petite so at times it was a squeeze especially with the extra pounds Im carrying around since travelling ha ha ha
The highlight of the day for me was the opportunity to shoot real guns left over from the war...I was in my element, like a school kid. I shot 10 rounds of the machine gun and 5 rounds of the AK-47 gun...wow how good! Im not joking when I say the english army lost a good soldier when I left england!
Of course on a serious note it is no wonder people in this country do not smile ever after the years of war from neighbouring countries particulaly america.
My visit to the war museum was a bit errie, but totally brought home the abuse vietnam suffered at the hands of the americans...the pictures on show was shocking, with babies in glass bottles that are deformed with two heads from when america dropped tons of agent orange on the country...the affects of agent orange are still previlant even now when you look around at people on the streets...!
On a lighter note a trip to saigon water park was amazing I went with an irish and english lads I was sharing a room with at the time..the slides were excellent the best Ive ever seen...I tried to take some pictures but someone stole my waterproof camera...swines!
Conclusion...Ho Chi Min City is excellent and has something for every taste/desire....!
For the first leg of my journey up north vietnam I decided to take the train, which is a scenic route through the mountains...11hours to Nha Trang here I come...!
