Hello again
Well here we are 500 kms north of Sydney in South West Rocks, another lovely little seaside place, there are so many in Australia!
Hope you are all well, no doubt you are enjoying the good weather and all the daffodils are in bloom looking lovely.
Since we left Melbourne nearly 3 weeks ago we have done some serious miles to get ahead of the weather. It rained in Melborune and it was following us round the coast, so unfortunately we could not go to Philip island or Wilson's Promontory National Park as wind and rain is not good for tents... and campers! We moved onto Lakes Entrance in Victoria to do a spot of, you guessed it.. fishing. He hasn't caught that elusive fish yet ( that he didn't have to throw back), (ie one big enough that you can eat) despite tips from local wherever we go where the fish actually are. My only consolation is that " if everyone caught a big fish, they'd be none left..." It's an Australian obsession, fishing everyone is doing it... little kids, big kids, young people, older people and they all seem to be towing boats! A local felt so sorry for him that they gave him one, which he tried to pass off as his own, but confessed over the frying pan as we were cooking it!!!
Never mind , it is great fun....and I'm getting through heaps of good books...
So we moved on into New South Wales and camped with kangaroos at Pambula. Funny little things, they makes some weird noises in the night and they don't actually go tut tut tut like in 'Skippy 'we found out.
We then went Narooma for Easter, sites were full to busting with all the Aussies on holiday too, we were lucky to have found a nice campsite as they get booked up a year in advance at this time! We went to the Tilba Festival while we were there, a lovely little village which swells from about 200 to 10,0000 every Easter.
We then move onto the the big one - SYDNEY. We negotiated our way through the centre, across the Bridge onto Narabeen, the nearest campsite we could find which was 24 kms away, in a lovely coastal resort. They are so spolit for beaches here! We caught the ferry into Sydney Harbour itself. Couldn't be more impressed by Sydney, it is amazing. We spent four days there, the Bridge is so big and the Opera House is so pretty close up. Sitting on those steps is such a wonderful feeling. It is a gorgeous, gorgeous place.
While we were there we did a tour of the Blue Mountains with fellow campers Barbara and George, visiting the Canyon and the World's Steepest Railwayand the Blue Mountains National Park. It is called the Blue Mountains due to the blue haze coming off the eucalyptus trees, which gives it a really tropical feel.
So here we are moving North to keep with the good weather. We'll be off heading for Brisbane, hopefully via Yamba and Byron Bay and into Queensland.
It is one truly amazing BIG country, it hard to believe we are only half way on our journey up the coast to Cairns. So much to see, so many places to go, so little time.
Stay with us and we'll show you some more...
Lots of love Dee and Gary XXXXX
