Full day today. Left Lima for Nazca. On the way we did a boat ride out to the Ballestas Islands, also sometimes referred to as the "Peruvian Galapagos" Not quite the Galapagos's equal but still worth a visit. Saw a shed load of sea birds (Lots of Peruvian boobies) and sea lions. Useful fact: For every one male sea lion there are 20 females. With those odds you'd fancy your chances. Stopped off at the Huacachina Oasis on the way to Nazca. Went dune bashing in what can only be described as a death trap. I have never seen sand dunes pass me by that quickly. While everyone else was shouting out ecstatically I was praying to Jesus to rescue me. We also had the opportunity to sand board down 100 meter dunes. They even drove you to the top (in the death traps)- frightening luxury This part of Peru is desert as far as the eye can see. (Must invest in a hat) Sand everywhere, and I mean everywhere. After sand boarding we took a dip in the Oasis (Helped to clear some of the sand away) following which we hopped into vintage American gas guzzlers (random) to complete a stunning scenic drive to Nazca which included views of arid dessert framed by the foothills of the Andes as the sun set and the full moon rose. Today is apparently Burns Day and Australia Day. Scottish Greg has promised to break out his single malt whiskey later, I've befriended him. I have no idea what Australian Greg plans to drink (Yes, we have two Gregs in our tour group)
