Early start today (530am) heading out on the 2 hour teeth clattering trip to one of the highest points in the Colco Canyon in an attempt to spot a Condor. Unfortunately we discovered that condors are shy and elusive creatures but we did see an eagle which we now refer to as the "baby condor". Despite our epic fail the trip was well worth the drive if only to see the canyon itself which is immense. I'm told it is twice the depth of the Grand Canyon. Our tour guide continues to point out where the last great earthquake took place. On one occasion informing us of a 7.2 that took place in this exact spot in 1991 just as we are about to drive through an unlit 400 meter tunnel. We make it back to Arequipa but tomorrow we fly to Cusco. The Inca Trail begins in two days.
