I woke up in a much better mood and decided that I had to get over my camera problem and just live with it for the next few weeks! So our group boarded the Magic bus for our journey to Lake Tekapo, our next stop. We had a day of driving to get through but the weather outside was perfect, the music and company were great and we had plenty of scenic stops to keep us happy. The best stop we had was a view out across a lake to the snowy Mt. Cook, New Zealand's tallest mountain. The view was stunning as we watched the reflection of the mountains shimmer in the lake and had a stone skimming competition! Was so satisfying to ruin the perfectly smooth water!!
We arrived late afternoon in the tiny town of Lake Tekapo, funnily situated right on Lake Tekapo, and had a quick wander around the lake taking photos before being dropped off at our hostel. I decided to be pro-active and make the most of the last of the light and I headed on a walk out of town and up to the top of a mountain which turned out to be more of a trek than I expected! On reaching the top though, I could see out for miles around in an amazing panoramic view of the surrounding lakes and mountains. I sat up there for about half an hour as the sunset behind the white mountains and watched as they turned to a pinky colour as the sun went down. Impressed with the amazing view, I ran back down to avoid being stuck in the darkness and headed indoors to escape the cold weather!
Back at the hostel, it was out last night together as a group of 9 and we had been travelling together for the past 10 days or so. So to mark the special occasion, we went all out and decided to cook a roast dinner as we had all been missing one so much! So we bought our ingredients and got to work. A couple of hours later after quite a few cooks spoiling the broth, our masterpiece was created and we all sat in silence, the only sounds to be heard was the scraping of knives and forks as we devoured our feast! Such a good meal, but don't worry mum, your's is better! We all sat around that evening feeling sick after eating too much and nursed our fat bellies!
