After a heavy night in Vancouver for our last in Canada I was feeling really rough. I had a banging headache. Today we are moving onto the USA. I felt a little better after my shower but I wasn't looking forward to the bus journey even if it was only 4 hours. (A really short ride compared to some of the others!).
Breakfast in the two parrots again, we both had this hash brown stuff. It really wasn't very nice and didn't help my hangover much. I ate about half and then felt really sick. We didn't have long to hang about as we needed to get to the greyhound station for our 12 o'clock bus to Seattle. We got on the C23 down to the central station. These buses aren't very big and I am sure I hit about 4 people pretty hard with my rucksack. Oops. (They should make the aisles bigger!).
We were only at the bus station about 20 minutes before the bus was due to depart, went though security and headed to the bus, we had to fill out customs forms - lets hope they let us in! The bus journey was ok once I was onboard and asleep. The Canada and USA border isn't very far from Vancouver. Once we had arrived at Blaine. This is where the boarder crossing was, and the name for the place that would be stamped in our passport of place of entry.
Everyone onboard the bus lined up, I'm not sure what the customs staff were doing but they seem to be chatting to one another. They were not going to be rushed. After the greyhound bus another bus arrived with other passengers (Bolt bus - this is the nice bus, with free Wifi!). So there were 2 buses and then they started to process people. We handed in our custom forms and then had to complete the old style green forms for visa on arrival. This was going to cost us $6, we didn't actually need the ESTA in the end. The staff seemed to give me and Chris a bit of a grilling. What we did for work, how much money we had, inbound flight details, what we would be doing, where we would be going and our favourite colour! Lol. However they then took our picture we gave them our finger prints. We were in the USA. We had held up the greyhound bus, it was a little embarrassing when they called out are anyone travelling on the greyhound. We ran to get back on the bus.
We have arrived in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!
Surprisingly the weather across the border was the same, grey and pissing down. We still had a few hours onboard the bus until we arrived in Seattle. As we came off the high way into Seattle the weather seemed to get worse. The clouds were really low and the rain continued to fall.
Our directions to the hostel were a little rubbish. After a little wrong turn we found the hostel. Soaking wet we checked in and found out room. Is a small room with 4 sets of bunk beds, at least it was clean. (At least for the moment!) We noticed across the street from the hostel was the Seattle Hard Rock Cafe! Result. We had dinner here and finally I started to feel better. The dinner was ok, nothing amazing - maybe it's because I went for something that wasn't the nachos. We had been in the states less then 5 hours and we had managed to have Hard Rock!
Once I had eaten I was feeling a little done in, the hostel was doing a bar crawl that I really wants feeling up for. Had enough drink yesterday. We chilled in the common area before heading to bed. Not sure what had happened to the room but it was stinking when we got back. I think someone really needs to wash. It was really disgusting, I had to spray aftershave onto my arm and then lay so that was all I could smell. I didn't help it was do bloody hot in the dorm. But they did have fans that helps a little bit. It just circulated the bad feet/dirty/fart smell around the room! Nice. Yuk.
