Spent the last few days in Brisbane in a fabulous apartment on the 23rd floor, with a balcony view over the river!
It has been really stormy here, in fact the weather across Australia has been pretty apocalyptic. There is a cyclone in Western Australia and bushfires across the Northern Territory and the electrical storms have raged across the whole east coast!
On my birthday we had a champagne and Starbucks breakfast and spent the day in a national park just outside of Brisbane where there are Botanic Gardens, bushwalks, a lookout at the top of a mountain over the city and a Planetarium (with shows narrated by Tom Hanks).
In the evening we took the CityCat (public transport catamarans) up and down the river through the city during sunset, and watched thousands of fruit bats come out from their roosts and fly over us.
The birthday extravaganza stretched over two days, to accomodate both Australian and British 21st of Decembers - which worked out well as we took our pick of the best weather over the two days to see the sights!
On the day before my birthday, Brisbane put on a firework display for me - which was nice of them!
The next leg of our journey is Brisbane to Sydney - a marathon 19 hour Greyhound bus drive - and onwards to the Blue Mountains!
Next update - who knows?
