em & ck : THE BIG TRIP!!
Dave drove us back through Seattle and over the floating bridge back to the house where we met Suzanne and had some left over pizza from Matthew's party before heading to bed to get some much needed sleep.
The next day we slept in so late they must have thought we were dead! We eventually emerged for lunch, pancakes, maple syrup and scrambled eggs! Suzanne showed us around the area they lived in and we saw the tents of the Cirque du Soleil who were in town. We drove back home for a while then went shopping in Redmond with Suzanne and her daughter Sarah. We returned home, had some dinner and watched Legally Blonde and Private Benjamin before heading to bed.
The next day we have brunch, toasted cheese sandwiches, then Suzanne drove to Redmond park and ride so we could catch the bus into Seattle city centre. We arrived at the Seattle Centre and followed the signs to the EMP - the Experience Music Project, which is a very odd looking building. Clare was annoyed to find that no pictures or videos were allowed in the building!! There was a spectacular sculpture consisting of 600 guitars!! There was a room where we were able to play some electric guitars! YAY Clare let loose in there! We then went in the sound proof jam room and mucked about! We saw a Jimi Hendrix exhibit and a guitar gallery which was interesting. We had a thought that to make some extra cash CK should play her guitar and Em should get her bongos out...we quickly re-thought that!! HAHA
The next day we witnessed a harassing customer on the bus, the bus driver dealt with it by singing very loudly about meadows in the microphone! We went to the famous Pike Place Market and saw flying fish - thankfully caught, as well as any levels of stalls. We also saw the very first Starbucks, and Em insisted on taking a picture amongst the many japanese! We then returned to the Seattle Centre and headed up the Space Needle to catch a great view of the city, very impressive but no real spark to it.
As it wasn't raining when we got up - hooray!- we decided to go for a bike ride along a trail, where five minutes into the ride we saw a bald eagle flying around in the trees. We had multiple issues, including the seat falling down on a bike and having to pull it up again, and the chain coming off the bike! Once back at home we played some table tennis and air hockey then went to see Matthew's high school play Little Shop Of Horrors, which was very good.
The next day we got the bus to Seattle Centre to the Folklife Festival which was a huge carnival. There was great music including a band playing music from the Andes, a rocking blues band called The Red Hot Blues Sisters!! We strolled around the place and saw some very interesting stalls as well as many henna ones. We walked around and just took in the atmosphere. That evening Clare pulled out Matthew's unused electric guitar and gave it a play, and was made to play to an audience!
Suzanne and Dave drove us to the Snoqualmie Falls the next day which was pretty spectacular. Stopping at Krispy Kreme to get some donuts on the way. We walked down the hill to the bottom of the falls and hiked back up the trail - a nice workout! We then headed back where we went out to have a meal.
The next day we awoke and made it downstairs for breakfast to prepare us for the insanely long train ride we were about to take. 24 hours on a train, which turned into 30 hours in the end!! We said our goodbyes and found our seats. There was lots of leg room and reclining chairs, as well as a sightseeing cart and a cafe. We spent the hours looking around, playing games, listening to music and Em waited for the sunset, until Clare informed her there wasn't a sun! We managed to sleep for quite a while though which was good.
We arrived in Sacremento 4 hours late and were able to walk around for 5- 10 mins to stretch our legs. When we got back on the trainwe went to get some breakfast ad got chatting to the cafe man who gave us some tips on where to go and what to see. We eventually arrived in San Jose station where we deboarded and lugged our stuff inside the station, where CK managed to without asking get her luggage carried for her! Gareth and Georgia then came to pick us up!
