em & ck : THE BIG TRIP!!
Chris and Carol decided to take us to Ottawa for the weekend. It was a 2 hour car drive from Montreal and on the way we stopped at Tim Hortons for tea and a donut.
Once in Ottawa, we went on a tour around Parliament Hill, it is more or less the same as England. We then went up the tower to see amazing views over Ottawa. We walked around the grounds in the blazing sun and took some great pictures. We also saw our very first REAL LIFE RACOON!!
We then went to our hotel to dump our stuff and test out the beds, they were VERY comfortable! We were also given "elite member" key cards, which of course we were very excited about!
We then went to a restaurant which served typical canadian dishes. The things we sampled were, calamari and beetroot salad, pickerot (sp), trout and rock hen. Then for dessert we had chocolate truffle and ice cream and apple spring rolls with caramel sauce. Very Yummy! After consuming some wine we witnessed Carol falling asleep, obviously we werent very interesting haha! She had her elbow on the table with her arm holding up her head, which kept slipping off, which then woke her up...this repeated quite a few times to our amusement, and each time she woke up she said "oh i know...it's what I do! It's what I do!" then back to sleep she went! Chris however, was the complete opposite! The more wine he had, the louder he got! After the meal Chris and Carol went to a bar but we got a taxi back to the hotel, where we watched Derailed in our stupidly comfy beds!
The next morning we were woken at some ungodly hour, seriously no one should have to get up that early if you slept in those beds! But it was worth it when we went to Eggspectations for breakfast! We tried banana and strawberry waffles with maple syrup! Very nice, but very filling and we couldn't quite stomach the WHOLE plate that early!
We then went to The Royal Canadian Mint, and went on a tour around the building. It wasn't operating at the time of the tour, but it was interesting to see how the coins are made. At the end of the tour we actually got to hold a gold bra! (whoops i mean bar) which was worth $300,000!!! We were all ready to swipe it Italian Job Style until we realised the bar was welded to a chain and the chain was welded to the floor...not to mention the incredibly butch monobrow woman in a bullet proof vest standing next it...
We then set off for Montreal again, stopping at a lovely log hotel in the middle of some forest and by a river. We had tea and dessert with great views. We also had a very amusing waiter who said "oh ma gaaad" about 50 times, and who thought everything was "ba-yoo-tiful"! We think he was spanish, but he said he could speak french and that he had picked up english really quickly and easily...we questioned this when he told us to "drive with carefully"!
That's all folks!
Us xx
