Sorry about the same old photo, no time to download my photos this time, maybe next time! Well, my love affair with China is fast disappearing. I am sitting in a dingy internet cafe, where I can barely see the keyboard, choking on second hand cigarette smoke (I don't think that the Chinese have ever heard of lung cancer) and it's bucketing down outside! The upside, however, is that I've been shown how to close my window, told that I have a functioning electric blanket on my bed and a machine that produces boiling water!!! So, with my spacious room and double bed, I am now the envy of all and very difficult to prise out of bed in the mornings!
Yesterday morning was spent learning how to be good Chinese teachers (of English!), how to cope with 50+ sleepy students in a class - they finish school at 10.30 pm and are up again at 6am - and how to motivate and inspire them with no resources except a board and chalk! Next week we will start observing lessons and producing some of our own and at this point I thank heavens for TEFL which has prepared me for all eventualities!!
The weather shows no real sign of improving, but we did have a rainless 36 hours when the cold, clammy mist, in which everything was shrouded, lifted, the karst hills all around us were lit up and suddenly we were in fairyland! The bright neon lights of the town combined with the graceful backdrop of the illuminated hills suggesting the centre and petals of a giant flower.
The rain has now been bucketing for the last 4 hours and shows no sign of letting up but time is nearly up and I'm starving, so, until the next time, love to all.
