Hello from Pushkar!
Slight change of plan, we've come to Pushkar first instead of Udaipur but will be going there next. Just had a great few days in Jaipur, we visited the old city which is famed for it's pink colour. Turned out it was just as crazy as Delhi, just on a smaller scale. In the old city we met a couple of guys who were students at the University of Jaipur, we hung out with them for a while and they took us to there local chai tea hangout. It was nice to chat with some of the locals who weren't trying to sell us something!
We visited the Jantar Mantar, an observatory full of astonomical instruments that date back to the 18th century, including a huge sundial that could tell the time to an accuracy of 2 seconds! Yesterday we visited the Hawa Mahal, Jaipur's most recognisable building, built to house the women of the royal household. From there we got some great views over the chaos that is Jaipur and the surrounding area.
We travelled by bus to Ajmer, where we got a connecting bus over Snake Mountain to Pushkar, a small Hindu pilgramage town. It's much greener and quieter here, which we're extremely grateful for after the last few days, so much so that we've decided to stay here until Friday, when we're planning to go to Udaipur. The hotel is really nice here (and very cheap!), the food is great here (strictly vegatarian).
The journey here saw our first bit of rain, it pelted it down for about 10 minutes, other than that it's been extremely hot and sunny. We're still only eating curry but this morning Greg finally succumbed to Delhi belly, it's fine though, at least we're in a nice place to chill out.
We'll tell you more about Pushkar in our next blog when we finally venture out!
Lots of Love
G & K
